Updates on life in Berlin!
I am currently collaborating with Silences duo Kata Kovacs and Tom O’Doherty. I was initiated into Silences in November when we performed Accompanied Walk at ESDIP in Berlin. You can view documentation on the Silences website here. I am excited to be a part of the next Silences installation in May, more info to come.
Tom, Kata and I have also been performing improvisations as part of the PORCH Extended series that happens every other month. You can get updates here.
I am also excited to be taking part in the Meeting Point. A monthly performative improvisation event that happens at Bethanian in the Meme Centrum Studios. The public is welcome. More info here.
As usual, I have many classes that are running around the city. You can find my most current teaching schedule under classes on on my Facebook page here.

So now onto more recent news…. I am currently on European soil pursuing professional development with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. They graciously agreed to fund my time here at Ponderosa, as part of their Porch intensive: 3 months of intensive workshops and creation at a dance retreat just outside of Berlin. Here’s the link: P.O.R.C.H
The end of the Performance module saw me creating the outdoor installation ‘caught nesting’. I built a giant nest and had quite a bit of fun playing with it. I will post more photos in the gallery.
The choreographic module will end September 8th and 9th with us presenting our new works in progress at Schwelle 7 in Berlin. More info to come!

Well, I’ve been a little tardy in updating. In the past few months this website became more of a way to advertise my classes then to promote and archive my work, but hopefully that will change. 2012 Started off with a bang, performing in Davis Freeman’s work ‘Too Shy To Stare’ at the COIL Festival in New York. Time out New York fit us into the top 5 dance events to see of the week and we had several nice reviews. Here are some of the links:
And… as luck would have it I met Jonathan Goldstein at a new year’s party and invited him to the show. Here’s his response:

ABOUT the CLASS
Pilates is an effective exercise form for anyone and this mat class will seek to teach the essentials of posture, ease in movement, and core stability. Small class size means an emphasis on individual attention. The class will progress from using imagery, and small precise movements, to whole body moves that require you to use everything you’ve got! With the beginner client Laura will introduce the foundations of pilates –focusing on finding more ease of movement in the shoulders and spine. With more advanced students, Laura will challenge your core and coordination. Working from the belief that a little bit every day goes a long way, classes will include basic anatomical information and education along with programs you can learn and do at home.

Nosh and stammer is nearing completion! This new 30 minute trio, with live sound composed on stage by Rachael Wadham will be premiered in Vancouver, July 8th and 10th 2011.
Catch a FREE preview! Monday June 27th, Heritage Playhouse Theatre, Gibsons BC. 4PM.
Having waited tables for over a decade first to support myself as a student, and later as an artist, I’m finally able to bring my discomfort and confusion about the antithetical world of fine dining and ‘service’ to the stage. A foray into live sound improvisation created by looping sound effects from a restaurant (wine glasses, pepper grinder, squeeky chair – you get the picture) with the occasional saw bowing, and dance that uses elements of physical theatre, text and improvisation, Nosh will be full of surprises.
Journey into the fine details and hard edges of waiting tables. Smiling through the chaos, Nosh explores the art of sincerity and the cravings of hunger while minding the proper placement of salt and pepper.

Choreography in collaboration with Anne Cooper and Caroline Farquhar

New work under way:
Pearl A new solo exploring ideas of femininity premiered at Toronto’s Dance Matters in April. You can see a sneak peak under video. I will be looking for more presentation opportunities for the work over the next year.
Nosh and stammer A new trio featuring the beautiful dancers Caroline Farquhar and Anne Cooper along with live sound composition by Rachael Wadham will premiere at Dancing on the Edge, Vancouver’s Contemporary Dance Festival in July 2011. I’ll be in Vancouver in June!
The above photo is by Linsay Lauckner. A talented Toronto photographer, she was kind enough to lend it to me to project as a back drop for Pearl. You can find a link to her website below.
